Healing through wellbeing and happiness

What if well-being was the heart of care?

As healthcare faces rising burnout, chronic disease, and disconnection, Hospitals of Happiness makes wellbeing the operating culture — for patients, for teams, for communities.

What the work looks like

Healing in the presence of belonging, and holding the people who hold everyone else

Hospitals of Happiness does not ask clinicians to become therapists or administrators to become philosophers. It asks something simpler: that every person who passes through a hospital's doors — patient, family member, nurse, surgeon, cleaner — be treated as someone whose belonging to the human community deserves to be honored in every interaction. Research cited by the Foundation shows patients who feel seen, heard, and cared for — not just treated — recover faster, need less pain medication, and experience significantly lower rates of post-treatment depression.

That view builds on the 2019 Global Happiness and Wellbeing Policy Report, which set out concrete recommendations for a happiness-informed healthcare system: a well-defined, evidence-based framework for healthcare appraisal; decisions grounded in opportunity cost; happiness itself, not narrowly defined health, as the measure of benefit; benefits counted for everyone affected, including a patient's family and care providers, not only the patient; greater priority for mental health; and more humane end-of-life care, with effective pain relief made available rather than aggressive, futile treatment.

Because caregivers carry so much of this weight, the Foundation's Global Mental Health Commission runs Heal the Healers, a network of networks for psychologists, doctors, nurses, social workers, crisis responders, educators, and family carers. Rather than founding another organization, it connects what already exists — hospital peer-support teams, professional associations, faith communities, local collectives — across geographies, including recent work reaching Nepal-Tibet, Colombia, and Venezuela. The work moves through three seasons: prevention, through peer circles and contemplative practice; mitigation in crisis; and regeneration afterward.

Belonging is medicine.

Voices from the programmes

What Happytalistas say after walking the path.

Validated words from coaches, professionals and Chief Well-Being Officers who have taken part in our programmes, Fests and retreats.

  • Before engaging with the World Happiness Foundation, I often treated well-being as something separate from performance. The program helped me see that people do their best work when meaning, trust, and humanity are built into the way we lead. That insight changed both my coaching conversations and the results my clients pursue.

    Executive Coach|United States

  • GGH helped me connect dots I had previously treated as separate: personal awareness, team culture, organizational design, and social impact. Seeing the whole system changed the way I diagnose challenges and the kind of solutions I am willing to build.

    Organizational Strategist|Belgium

  • The Foundation gave me language for something I had felt for years: real transformation begins inside, but it cannot end there. I now help leaders connect personal awareness with the cultures and communities they influence. My work feels deeper, more courageous, and more useful.

    Leadership Coach|Canada

  • The program moved happiness from the edge of my leadership agenda to the center of how I think about progress. I began evaluating decisions not only by what they deliver, but by the human experience they create along the way.

    Senior Leader|Austria

  • I came looking for new coaching tools and found a much larger invitation - to accompany people toward lives of purpose, connection, and contribution. The program expanded my practice while reminding me why I became a coach in the first place.

    Professional Coach|Mexico

  • GGH gave me a coherent framework for work that had sometimes felt fragmented. I can now help clients connect individual practices with leadership behavior, cultural conditions, and measurable organizational priorities. The result is a more credible and lasting approach.
