Week 19 of 36
Teaching ROUSER
ICF competency anchor: Embodies a Coaching Mindset — Marker 2.6 at MCC depth · Demonstrates Ethical Practice — Marker 1.1 at MCC depth
90 min
This week
All Level 3 graduates can teach the ROUSER model — to clients in coaching engagements, to teams in workshops, to organizations as part of leadership development. This week develops the teaching capacity for ROUSER specifically. The work is to articulate the model in your own voice, to make it land for the audience in front of you, and to embody the dimensions you are teaching. You can only teach what you have integrated.
Contemplative practice of the week
The ROUSER Articulation Practice
Thirty minutes daily, alternating which pillar each day. Day 1: Sit. Then articulate aloud (recording yourself if helpful) the Relationships pillar — what it is, why it matters, how it manifests, its shadow, its cultivation. Don't read from anywhere. Speak from what you know. Day 2: Openness. Day 3: Understanding. And so on through all seven dimensions. By the end of the seven days, you have articulated the full model from your own integration. Master teachers of ROUSER do this practice for years. The framework becomes part of their natural speech.
Learning objectives
- Articulate the full ROUSER model in your own voice without notes.
- Practice teaching one specific pillar with mastery.
- Recognize the difference between explaining ROUSER (which is fine) and embodying it as you teach (which is master teaching).
- Receive cohort feedback on your teaching of one pillar in detail.
- Develop your teaching repertoire — the metaphors, examples, exercises that make the framework land for your particular audiences.
Session architecture
- Hour 1 — The articulation. Each student presents the full ROUSER model in 6 minutes without notes. The cohort listens for what is in the student's own voice versus what is borrowed. Faculty offers reflective input.
- Hour 2 — The teaching of one pillar. Each student selects one of the seven dimensions and prepares a 12-minute teaching of that pillar — definition, manifestation, shadow, cultivation, signs of integration. The teaching can include exercises, metaphors, examples.
- Hour 3 — Cohort teaching practicum. Five students teach their selected pillar. The cohort listens for embodiment versus explanation. After each, structured feedback.
- Hour 4 — Continuing cohort teaching practicum (remaining students). Synthesis: what did we learn about teaching ROUSER from each other? What is the master teacher's particular field?
Reading
- The Transpersonal Leader — chapters on teaching ROUSER and the field of the master teacher
- ROUSER documentation v2.2 — re-read with teaching intention
- Selected reading on the master teacher's craft — Parker Palmer's The Courage to Teach
- Selected reading on dharma teaching across traditions
Lineages at work
ROUSER (anchor) — articulation and teaching at master depth · Coaching — teaching the framework as part of the engagement · Transpersonal — teaching as field-creation · Contemplative — the dharma teacher's instruction
Milestone
Full ROUSER model articulated from memory in cohort. One pillar taught in detail to the cohort with feedback received. ROUSER taught to a real audience with self-assessment. ROUSER Articulation daily practice (rotating through the seven pillars) integrated.
Reflection prompt
When I taught ROUSER this week, what was my actual experience? What did I notice about the audience's reception? What pillar do I teach with the most embodiment? Which one falls flat when I teach it? What does that show me about my own integration?
