Week 29 of 36

The Lineage's Future

ICF competency anchor: Embodies a Coaching Mindset — Marker 2.6 at MCC depth

90 min

This week

While the first performance evaluations are being scored, the cohort turns to a different question: what is the lineage's future, and what is your specific contribution to it? This is not abstract. Each Level 3 graduate will contribute something specific — a body of client work, a series of writings, a teaching practice, a research strand, a new application, a leadership role. This week begins the articulation of yours.

Contemplative practice of the week

The Future Listening

Twenty-five minutes daily. Sit. Establish the witness. Bring to mind the lineage's future — five years out, ten years out. Ask: what wants to be in the lineage that is not yet there? What needs my specific contribution to come into being? Listen for what arises — not as preference but as call. Master coaches who become significant contributors to their lineages have done this practice for years. The contribution does not come from ego-aspiration; it comes from listening to the field-call.

Learning objectives

  • Articulate the specific contribution you are bringing to the lineage's future.
  • Distinguish between aspiration (what you would like to bring) and commitment (what you will actually deliver).
  • Recognize that the contribution is yours specifically — no one else can make it.
  • Identify the next 12 months of action that begin to deliver the contribution.
  • Receive cohort feedback on the specificity and feasibility of your contribution.

Session architecture

  • Hour 1 — The lineage's future. Lead Instructor teaches what the lineage is and is becoming. Existing strands of work — research, training, organizational deployment, individual practice, public dissemination. Specific gaps that need to be filled.
  • Hour 2 — Personal contribution articulation. Each student takes 30 minutes to articulate their specific contribution. The articulation is in writing and includes: what is the contribution, why it is yours specifically, what 12 months of action delivers it, what support is needed.
  • Hour 3 — Cohort articulation circle. Each student presents their contribution in 5 minutes. Cohort offers feedback on specificity, feasibility, and uniqueness. Faculty offers reflective input.
  • Hour 4 — Continuing articulation circle. Synthesis. The cohort's collective contribution to the lineage articulated.

Reading

  • The Transpersonal Leader — chapters on the lineage's future and specific contribution
  • Selected reading on vocational call across traditions — Parker Palmer's Let Your Life Speak
  • Selected reading on the master practitioner's contribution to the field — peer-reviewed coaching research

Lineages at work

Transpersonal (anchor) — specific contribution to the lineage's future · ROUSER — using the Awakened Archetypes to identify one's particular gift to the field

Milestone

Specific contribution to the lineage's future articulated in writing with 12-month action plan. First action taken to begin delivery. Cohort feedback received and integrated. The Future Listening daily practice initiated.

Reflection prompt

What is my actual contribution to the lineage's future? Is it specific enough to be deliverable? What is its uniqueness — what can only I bring? What is the 12-month commitment? What support do I need that I have not yet asked for?
