Week 28 of 36
First Performance Evaluation
ICF competency anchor: All eight competencies at MCC depth
90 min
This week
The first formal performance evaluation. A real coaching session with a real client (not a peer), recorded, submitted. Faculty plus an external MCC evaluator score against the full ICF MCC marker rubric. The result is one of three: clear pass at MCC, marginal (areas needing development), or not yet at MCC standard. The result, in any case, is data — not verdict — and shapes the remaining weeks of the program.
Contemplative practice of the week
The Pre-Performance Sit
Forty-five minutes immediately before the evaluation session. Sit. Establish the witness. Stabilize at 500+. Bring to mind the bestowal posture for the client. Release any concern about the evaluation outcome — it will be what it is. Settle entirely into the work that is about to happen. The evaluation is happening; it does not need to be coached. The client is what needs to be coached. Master coaches walk into evaluations from this practice, not from preparation-anxiety.
Learning objectives
- Conduct one real coaching session under formal evaluative conditions.
- Submit the recording for evaluation.
- Receive detailed feedback against the MCC marker rubric.
- Hold the result, whatever it is, with master equanimity.
- Use the result as data shaping the remaining work.
Session architecture
- Hour 1 — Pre-evaluation grounding. Each student does the pre-evaluation practice (developed in Week 27). Faculty offers brief support. Final preparations.
- Hour 2 — The first wave of evaluations begin. Half the cohort conducts their evaluation session. Recordings submitted to the external evaluator immediately.
- Hour 3 — The second wave of evaluations. The remaining students conduct their evaluation session. Recordings submitted.
- Hour 4 — Cohort circle. After all evaluations are submitted, the cohort gathers. No discussion of content yet (results not back). Each student names the experience of being evaluated. The cohort holds the moment together.
Reading
- ICF MCC Performance Evaluation requirements — final review
- The Transpersonal Leader — chapters on evaluation as practice
Lineages at work
Coaching (anchor) — formal MCC evaluation · ICF — MCC performance evaluation framework · Transpersonal — staying present under evaluative pressure
Milestone
First formal performance evaluation conducted with a real client. Recording submitted to faculty and external evaluator. Pre-Performance Sit practice integrated. Cohort circle held after evaluations complete. Results expected within two weeks (Week 30).
Reflection prompt
What is my actual experience of conducting that session under evaluative conditions? Did I remain present, or did I slip into performance? What is the evidence either way? What was the moment I am proudest of? What was the moment I want to revisit?
