Capstone Implementation
ICF competency anchor: Embodies a Coaching Mindset — Marker 2.6 at MCC depth · Demonstrates Ethical Practice — Marker 1.1 at MCC depth

This week
The capstone implementation begins in earnest. The work this week is to make substantial progress on the capstone while remaining present to the program's ongoing demands. Master coaches juggle multiple commitments without losing presence with any. This week trains that capacity through the lived demands of the capstone alongside the regular program work.
Contemplative practice of the week
The Implementation Stillness
Twenty minutes daily, before any capstone work. Sit. Establish the witness. Bring to mind the capstone work that needs doing today. Release the urgency of getting it done. Settle into the work as practice, not as performance. Then move into the capstone work itself. The practice trains the capacity to make substantial progress without becoming driven by it. Master capstones are delivered by practitioners who keep the witness in the implementation, not by those who lose themselves in the doing.
Learning objectives
- Make substantial progress on the capstone (specific milestones identified).
- Recognize and work through the inevitable implementation difficulties.
- Adjust the design as reality requires while preserving the core intention.
- Maintain presence in regular client work while implementing the capstone.
- Receive ongoing capstone supervision from faculty mentor.
Session architecture
- Hour 1 — Implementation update. Each student names where they are in implementation. Specific progress and specific obstacles. Cohort holds.
- Hour 2 — Working through obstacles. Specific obstacles are unpacked one by one. Cohort and faculty offer support, not solutions. The student is responsible for working through.
- Hour 3 — Maintaining presence under capstone load. A teaching on how master coaches sustain their regular client work while making major contributions. Specific protocols.
- Hour 4 — Capstone supervision sessions. Each student has a 20-minute one-on-one with their faculty mentor on capstone implementation. Sessions overlap as needed.
Reading
- Continuing reading from the capstone-specific bibliography (varies by capstone)
- Selected reading on the implementation discipline of master practitioners

Reflection prompt
What has implementation revealed that the design did not anticipate? What adjustment does reality require? What is the master move I am being asked to make right now? Where am I tempted to abandon the capstone, and what is asking that of me? What is asking me to continue?
