Week 35 of 36
Final Lineage Holder Discernment
ICF competency anchor: Demonstrates Ethical Practice — Marker 1.1 at MCC depth
90 min
This week
The Lineage Holder discernment that began at Week 25 reaches its culmination. By now, ten weeks of sitting with the question have produced an answer. This week, the discernment is named formally. Those called to the formal Lineage Holder commitment make their commitment in the cohort circle. Those not called name that with equal honor. Both paths continue the lineage. Neither is more valuable.
Contemplative practice of the week
The Lineage Discernment Final
The practice from Week 25 reaches its culmination this week. The answer has been received. Now the practice becomes living the answer. For those who took the Lineage Holder commitment: the practice continues for the rest of your life as the discipline of the commitment. For those who took the alternative stewardship: the practice continues as the discipline of your form of stewardship. The lineage holds both paths.
Learning objectives
- Articulate the discernment that has matured across ten weeks.
- Make the formal Lineage Holder commitment if called, in cohort circle.
- Articulate the alternative form of stewardship if not called, in cohort circle.
- Hold the cohort's varied responses with equal honor.
- Begin (for those called) the formal Lineage Holder relationship with the program.
Session architecture
- Hour 1 — Re-entry into the discernment circle. Each student names where the ten weeks of sitting have brought them.
- Hour 2 — The Lineage Holder commitment. Those called make their commitment in the circle. The vow is articulated in their own words. Faculty witnesses. Cohort holds.
- Hour 3 — The alternative stewardship commitment. Those not called make their commitment to alternative forms of stewardship — informal mentoring, written contribution, organizational influence, sustained client practice. Faculty witnesses. Cohort holds.
- Hour 4 — The lineage as a whole. A teaching on the lineage as it stands now and as it will stand in five and ten years. The cohort's contributions situated within it. The closing of Movement IV approached.

Milestone
Lineage Holder discernment finalized in cohort circle. Either formal Lineage Holder commitment made or alternative stewardship articulated. First action under the commitment taken. The lineage's future shaped by the cohort's commitments.
Reflection prompt
What commitment did I make? What did the ten weeks of sitting produce? What is now mine to live? What does this commitment ask of me starting today, not in some future day? What is the first action that demonstrates the commitment is real?
