Fundamental Peace: The Source Book

It begins with a war and ends with an embrace. Luis Miguel Gallardo's new book arrives for the International Day of Peace, 21 September: 27 chapters that trace peace from a house of respect to the arithmetic of 2050 — with all 22 figures, the FP20 scale and a companion that answers only from its pages, open on this site.

What it actually holds

Part I walks from a house of respect through Lancaster, 1995, the Observer, the Internal Diplomat and the Third Peace to a shadow map. Part II sets that against the perennial testimony — the traditions, the dialogues, the guides, and a convergence map.

Part III asks why peace should be measured at all and answers with the FP20 scale and a research programme. Part IV is the method: ground, a daily engine, the six wounds and their virtues, a five-step alchemy, and the choice to return. Part V lives it out — household, organization, city, among nations, and 2050.

Why the Day of Peace

The International Day of Peace is observed every 21 September. It is the day the world sets aside to ask what peace actually asks of us — and the day we chose to open this book to everyone who reads with us.

Fundamental Peace is the ground the World Happiness Foundation keeps returning to: not the absence of conflict, but the condition a person can stand in and return to. This book is the source text for that work.

What the book is

The Source Book runs from an Overture to a Coda across five parts, and closes with five appendices — among them the FP20, the Fundamental Peace Scale, and the Ground Route wall card.

Every chapter title, section heading and figure on our book page is the author's own text, reproduced as it stands in the book. We have added no summaries and no interpretations of our own.

Read it as a living page, not a closed file

The book page holds the complete table of contents with the opening lines of each chapter, the full gallery of figures, and Talk to the book — a companion that answers only from the book's own pages and names the chapter each answer comes from.

If a question falls outside the book, the companion says so rather than filling the gap. That is deliberate: the book speaks for itself.

The FP20, and the ePub

The FP20 — the Fundamental Peace Scale — is Appendix A of the book. You can take the FP20 through the author's own door at lmgallardo.org, then record your result in your account so it sits beside the rest of your instruments.

The ePub is open to signed-in members who have recorded an FP20 result — or completed the ITM assessment. The download link is personal and expires shortly after it is created: measure once, and the book is yours to read offline.

Pass it on

If the book moves you, the most generous thing you can do is give a copy away and leave an honest review — that is how a book on peace finds the next reader.
